The House of Mazziotti was founded in Bolsena in 1900 by Gerardo Mazziotti who had already spent more than 10 years in the oenological field. His entrepreneurial talents were soon acknowledged and rewarded both in Italy and abroad.
Italo Mazziotti followed in his father's footsteps, giving impetus to the growth of the House. As with his father, Italo was challenged to produce wine to meet the highest standards of quality.

After the passing of Italo Mazziotti his daughter Flaminia is at the helm of the family winery, continuing in the tradition of a quality for which the House of Mazziotti has become known. Currently Flaminia's daughter Valeria is operating the House as well in a continuous renewal of the farm and the products

  • VINEYARDS

    Open or Close

One of Italo's major achievements was the planting of a vineyard located in the area where the "Est Est Est di Montefiascone" had its origins. This hilly section is surrounded by deciduous woods, which contribute greatly to the favourable climate for the vineyard. The vines face the afternoon sun and the volcanic soils are especially rich in potassium and phosphorus.

The vinejard has a surface of 30 hectares and the technique used is Double Guyot for white wines and Cordon Spur for red wines.

Only grapes grown in the privately-owned vineyard are used by the House of Mazziotti and the grapes are hand picked and gathered in small 15 kilo containers.

    Bolsena: the city of miracles

The House of Mazziotti is located on Via Cassia at Km. 110, only 3 Km. from the enchanting Bolsena, an ancient town with Etruscan and Medieval artifacts, located on the beautiful lake of Bolsena.

The most important event that made Bolsena known is the Miracle of Corpus Domini that took place in 1263 when a Boemian priest celebrating the mass in the beautiful Cathedral, named after St. Christina, saw the holy host bleeding drops of blood which spotted the Altar cloth and the floor of the church.

Pope Urban IV acknowledged the miracle and built the magnificent Cathedral of Orvieto to preserve the altar cloth, while the stones of the floor can be seen near the altar of the miracle in the Cathedral of Bolsena.

Every year the miracle is celebrated with various events and with a beautiful display of floral carpets along the narrow medieval streets of Bolsena.

Among the many monuments of Bolsena, the Monaldeschi Castle and its Museum deserve a mention.
